DVD printing ink "shrink" external perspective (I)
Dolby company focused on topics such as DVD printing at a recent technical seminar. " The standard explanation of "shrink" is not the only topic. Dolby believes that climate testing is a key factor in DVD printing

you may ask: what is the role of constantly developing new products in CD printing
in fact, the CD-ROM reproduction industry has not declined. Although the CD-ROM industry has been in existence for 20 years, maybe in 10 years, 20% to 40% of music CDs will be sold through Internet downloads, we estimate that it will exist for 10 to 15 years. At that time, CD audio may fall to the level of vinyl today, but now we have to consider reforming the current CD printing industry
in fact, silk printing has proved to be the most effective way of CD printing. Today, more than 90% of CD printing uses silk printing. Silk printing has a wide range, from monochrome text and image printing to four-color printing
the main development of silk printing is to obtain thinner wire diameter, so as to reduce ink and film thickness. The automatic plate coating process can obtain thinner film thickness and finer point resolution. These factors urge us to adjust the fluidity of ink. In the past, some inks with formulas can pass through 140t silk. Now, the adhesion strength of go-pda in simulation is still higher than that of go, but it cannot pass through 150, 165t or finer cloth. At the same time, the improvement of the rubber scraping speed has also made this problem more serious. Now it has reached 40005200 pieces/hour, and the scraper speed of Dolby's next generation machine has reached 6000 pieces/hour
when you understand CD printing, some new products such as fluorescent, phosphorescent, cold light, pearlescent ink, textile varnish, scratch detection varnish, etc. can help customers produce products that can occupy a place in the market
dvd
all signs show that DVD has firmly established its foothold in the market. Most CD-ROM reproducers can produce DVD-5 and dvd-10, which are very popular in the multimedia field. Now, they are promoting DVD-9 with higher requirements and longer playback time
ink manufacturers are not interested in double-sided DVDs (dvd-10, 14, 18) because only the inner ring on the second side can be printed. We can say that DVD technology is also an innovative technology and improved technology. We have the same feeling about DVD ink formula. The improvement part is the most critical development, which has been discussed in CD screen printing: the use of finer cloth and the improvement of machine speed need to adjust the ink fluidity. In the DVD market, there are also such requirements to produce highly competitive products to enhance the printing effect
innovation comes from the fact that DVD innovation requires new ink formulas. Because the rotation speed of DVD is much faster than that of CD, and smaller components are used for injection molding on thinner discs, they have higher requirements for the reaction of ink on PC materials, and are easily affected by the printing effect of the outer surface. DVD higher recording/reading speed requires a narrower tilt angle than CD. Therefore, UV ink used on DVD must have less influence on the tilt angle, which is a major problem
recordable discs
recordable discs, especially CD-R, represent a new market, especially in Asia, which is actively developing in this field. The increasing demand promotes the development of special coating varnish, and has produced a higher quality disc base (master disc)
a single CD-R can be designed individually or used:
- pencil and felt tips - we have developed a special writable varnish that can be directly printed digitally
- at present, direct digital printing is only used for a small amount of CD-R printing. However, it is only a matter of time before using digital printing in CD-R mass production to make printing fast and economical. We have developed ink coatings for digital printing: ink jet light absorbing layer (ijal) and heat transfer receiving layer (ttrl)
other CD printing methods
UV waterless offset printing and the recent emergence of UV flexible board printing directly threaten the dominance of silk printing. UV water free offset printing can make the surface image of optical disc more fine, especially when printing on white. We believe that offset printing will continue to be used together with silk printing, especially in the field of DVD video four-color printing that requires high definition
but offset printing is restricted by the following factors:
- there are only a few offset presses in the field of optical disc printing
- there are inevitable difficulties in UV waterless offset printing: it needs to strictly control the printing plate temperature and special UV ink compatible with Toray printing plate
uv flexible board printing is still a new printing method in CD and DVD industry. However, recently, it has been found in the use of UV flexible plate printing that all the main parameters in the printing process (such as: grain transfer grinding roller, scraping blade, flexible plate, printing plate adhesion, etc.) make the printing and elastic fit quality greatly improved. Because of its economic advantages, it will be an eye-catching printing method in the future
these new printing methods used in the optical disc industry have weak precipitation performance, so we can ignore their impact on the deformation of optical discs
